Job Title:
VAT Accountant/ Advisor
Work Area:
Indirect Tax (VAT/GST, Customs and Excise duties)
Main purpose of Job:
- To ensure that all transactions are appropriately treated for
VAT purposes and thus minimize the exposure.
- Prepare VAT returns and provide VAT advice.
People Management Responsibility:
Training of Traffic staff so that they can make assessment of
appropriate VAT treatment for the easiest cases.
Typical Key Responsibilities:
- Provide advice to operators and Traffic staff in relation to
the VAT implications of deals, information to be included on
invoices and VAT numbers to supply to counterparties.
- Ensure proper and timely filing of VAT and Intrastat
reports.
- Liaise with external advisors.
- Make indirect tax reconciliations and analysis.
- Control maintenance of records of all transactions to prove
reasons for VAT treatment on subsequent review on a sampling
basis.
- Support ERP and tax engine implementations to ensure compliance
with VAT requirements - Continual development and standardisation
of the VAT control processes.
- Assist Group Indirect Tax Manager for liaison with authorities
and management of Audits.
- Support the preparation of management reports on indirect
taxes.
Experience/Knowledge/Skills (Competencies):
- Accounting and VAT experience in a similar position, ideally
gained in a multinational environment.
- Fluent English essential – written and spoken
- Willingness to follow through on detail
- Willingness to develop knowledge in Indirect Tax
- Worked in a trading environment, preferably commodities.
- Experience with ERP systems
