Title:
Entry Level Junior Metals Trader (Lucerne – Stamford)
Main purpose of Job:
In the first instance and as a part of the on-the-job training
programme a successful candidate will join an existing Operations
or Deals Desk department in the Lucerne office. Once a sound grasp
of the business is attained, the ultimate goal shall be to join a
trading desk in one of our commodities. The time spent during
this period will vary from candidate but will tend to be typically
around 1 to 1.5 years. The initital exposure shall be to the
respective Head of Department, either Operations or Deals Desk with
an increasing exposure to the Traders culminating in a move to the
trading desk, based in Stamford.
Key Responsibilities:
Initially to undertake a full training programme in the physical
metals trading business covering:
- Physical market characteristics and product
knowledge
- Hedging
- Shipping logistics
- Financing
- Operations
- Monitor physical and derivative positions
- Develop customer relationships
- Support trading activities of Senior Trader
Key
Relationships:
- Traders
- Operations department
- Deals Desk department
- Trade Finance department
- Customers on operational level
Reporting
Structure:
- Reporting directly to Head of Operations and
Senior Trader
Experience/Knowledge/Skills:
- Graduates educated to minimum degree level
2:1 (or equivalent) in Mathematics / Statistics / Economics are
preferred but not essential; candidates with a background in
humanities and/or other courses who demonstrate a rounded
personality and a flair for trading will also be considered. 6 to
24 months relevant work experience on either the physical or the
derivatives side of the business would be advantageous.
- Fluent English essential as daily contact with
traders and internal departments is conducted in English, any other
language will be an advantage, Spanish and Mandarin are
particularly welcome
- Strong communication/influencing skills and
numeral literacy are very important
- Ambitious, dynamic and enthusiastic personality
who seeks to understand the complexity of the business
- Forward thinking with a natural aptitude for
implementing innovative processes
- Ability to work in an independent, proactive
manner and motivated to succeed in a high speed environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and flair
for IT systems
