Job Title:

Applications Developer

 

Work Area:

Central London, West End.

 

Main purpose of Job:

The role involves writing specifications and designing, building, testing, implementing and sometimes supporting applications. Working within the London based development team.

 

People Management Responsibility:

None

 

Typical Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Interact directly with business users to gather and analyze business requirements thus establishing a detailed program specification.

  • Clarifying precisely what actions the program is intended to perform.

  • Breaking down program specification into its simplest elements and translating this logic into a programming language.

  • Devising possible solutions to predicted problems, evaluating other options.

  • Working as part of a team, which may be established purely for a particular project, to write a specific section of the program.

  • Combining all elements of the program design and testing it.

  • Testing sample data-sets to check that output from the program works as intended;

 

Minimum Experience/Knowledge/Skills (Competencies):

 

We would generally expect the candidate to be educated to at least degree level or equivalent  in either Computer Science or another hard science or engineering discipline and a true passion for coding

 

ESSENTIAL

 

  • Ideally 5+ years experience with Object Oriented languages (C++, C# or Java etc.)
  • Strong in at least one scripting language such as Perl, Python or Ruby.
  • Extensive knowledge of design patterns, refactoring, and continuous integration
  • Knowledge of Agile Methodologies (Extreme Programming (XP), Scrum, other)
  • The desire and ability to learn new technologies quickly
  • The ability to inspire others to create great code

 

DESIRABLE:

 

Experience with any of the following tools or technologies is desirable

  • a variant of Unix
  • Automated build and deployment skills
  • Unit-testing
  • Automated testing

Reporting Structure: Team Leader

 

Key relationships: Business Client, Developers,DBA, Testers
