Job Title:
Front Office Lead Developer
Work Area:
Front Office Development Team
Main purpose of Job:
The role is to act as the technical design authority for the
front office trading applications team. Reporting to the Front
office IT Head, they will set the technical direction of the
development team and manage the team’s technical work. This will
involve designing, implementing, testing, and supporting
applications and also analysis and writing of specifications.
People Management Responsibility:
Small team of developers
Typical Key Responsibilities:

Setting the priorities of the developers
within the team, reviewing their work and acting as technical
mentor

Devising possible solutions to technical
problems, evaluating alternative solutions.

Involvement in day to day development and
support activities in conjunction with team members

Interact directly with business users to
gather and analyze business requirements thus establishing a
detailed software requirements specification.

Interacting with 3rd party software
vendors to evaluate technical fitness of solutions and interfacing
with their architects to produce architectural roadmaps.

Taking direction from the Head of front office
system as to the business requirements and priorities
Minimum Experience/Knowledge/Skills (Competencies):
We would generally expect the candidate to be
educated to at least degree level in either Computer Science or
another hard science or engineering discipline and a true passion
for delivering quality software
ESSENTIAL
- Circa 7+ years experience with Object
Oriented languages (C++, C# or Java etc.)
- Strong in at least on scripting language such
as Perl, Python or Ruby.
- Knowledge of trading fundamentals
- Extensive knowledge of design patterns,
refactoring, unit testing, automated regression testing and
continuous integration.
- Knowledge of Agile Methodologies (Extreme
Programming (XP), Scrum, DSDM, or other)
- Understanding of modern source code
management techniques
- Experience of managing a small dynamic
development team
- Experience of scalable, high performance
systems design, and performance optimisation techniques
- The desire and ability to learn new
technologies quickly
- The ability to inspire others to create great
code
DESIRABLE:
Experience with any of the following areas is
desirable
- a variant of Unix
- Automated build and deployment skills
- Commodities trading (physical &
derivatives)
