Job Title:

Maintenance Developer

 

Work Area:

IT Development Team - Central London, West End.

 

Main purpose of Job:

Support, maintenance and enhancement of in-house oil and metals' trading systems to support the company's front & back office business - using VB.Net, VB6 and SQL 2000 & 2005.

 

People Management Responsibility:

None

 

Typical Key Responsibilities:

  • Analysing and solving problems in the application including code, SQL or configuration errors
  • Analysing and solving performance issues
  • Performing some DBA-style functions, or providing backup for the DBA
  • Unit testing, integration testing, automated testing

 

Minimum Experience/Knowledge/Skills (Competencies):

 

Essential skills:

  • in depth experience of IT development with a history of developing and implementing client/server applications
  • in depth experience with VB.Net and VB6
  • in depth experience with SQL Server
  • excellent problem-solving skills
  • excellent communication skills
  • good interpersonal skills
  • ability to work individually or as part of a team

 

Educated to degree level

Microsoft Certified in VB6/VB.Net and/or SQL Server

 

Desirable skills:

  • Sourcesafe
  • Solid understanding of COM/.Net Interop
  • Debugging tools (eg WinDbg, CorDbg)
  • Automated build and deployment skills (eg NAnt, MSBuild)
  • Unit-testing (eg NUnit, MBUnit)
  • Automated testing (eg QTP)
