Metals & minerals investment

The Cormin group of companies in Peru, Chile, Mexico and Bolivia provide an independent source of supply and logistical support for the key mining activities along the Pacific coasts of South America.

In Lima, Cormin facilities include the 'Antonio Cometti Memorial Warehouse' which is a permanent tribute to one of our founding partners. This facility, based in the Callao port district, encompasses a 105,000 m2 warehouse facility and a 11,000m2 hermetically and climate control sealed warehouse dedicated to the handling and storage of lead concentrates. From the warehouse facility Cormin supplies blended lead, zinc and copper concentrates for a large number of smelters across the world. The Group also operates similar facilities on a smaller scale in Copiapó in Chile and in Mexico.

The Group has invested in several producing mines or mining companies:

in Peru:

  • Condestable copper mine - download 2006 Condestable report (1.0Mb);
  • Catalina Huanca zinc, lead and silver mine;
  • Volcan - a large lead, zinc and silver producer.

In Mexico:

  • Nueva Monte zinc, lead and silver mine.

In Morocco:

  • Seksaoua, a copper mine.

Trafigura also has investments in Iberian Minerals, a Canadian listed mining company with assets in Spain.

Trafigura's shareholding and commercial relationship with the KCM Plovdiv lead and zinc smelting facility has reinforced the Group's position as one of the foremost lead and zinc traders in the Balkans and neighbouring regions.
