Trafigura has a strong global trading presence in the copper,
lead, zinc concentrate and alumina markets. Our total raw material
purchases are approximately seven million tons per year.
On the purchase side, we are particularly strong in the
Americas, Africa and Australasia; whilst on the sales side China,
India and Europe dominate our activities. The strategy of the
department is to have a global presence and to differentiate
Trafigura by offering logistics and financing services as well as
trading solutions to customers.
The company operates a number of wholly owned regional
infrastructure and logistics companies in the Americas, Africa and
China, which coupled with the variety of financing solutions that
we are able to provide, has meant that we do business with a large
proportion of the global mining, smelting and refining
industries.
Trafigura is increasingly taking minority equity stakes in
junior and mid-tier mining companies which allow them to benefit
from our logistics, financing and technical expertise, while at the
same time committing off-take agreements with a reliable
counterparty.
