Head of Renewables and Strategic Investments
Julien Rolland is Head of Renewables and Strategic Investments for Trafigura. His role is to lead and accelerate the growth of the company’s investment portfolio in renewable energy, including hydrogen, ammonia and other low-carbon energy technologies. Julien also leads strategic investments for the Group, including the Lobito Atlantic Corridor Railway project and is a board member of Impala Terminals.
In 2020 Julien was tasked with developing the company’s new Power & Renewables business. This led to the creation of the Geneva and Houston-based power trading platform and investments in alternative and renewable energy companies Nala Renewables, H2 Energy and Hy2gen amongst others.
Julien joined Trafigura to set up the Johannesburg office in 2006 to initiate and develop trading activity and business development across Southern Africa for non-ferrous metals and for the company’s fuel, logistics and mining operations. He moved to Switzerland in 2010 to head the company’s lead and zinc concentrates trading desk and subsequently developed the bulk minerals trading and dry freight activity.
Julien started his career in Brazil, moving into metal and concentrates trading with Transamine in Paris in 1997.
A French citizen, Julien is married with three children and lives in Geneva, Switzerland.
