Charting a course to a greener future for shipping: low-emission fuel supply and the opportunities for the Global South

Trafigura’s Margaux Moore and Rasmus Nielsen examine what it will take to decarbonise the shipping industry and conclude that it can only be achieved by scaling up production of hydrogen-based shipping fuels.  The good news is there is vast potential to produce green ammonia and green methanol in the ‘Global South’ but this will only be realised with the right policy settings, including a price on carbon for marine fuels and ambitious emission reduction targets for 2030 and 2040.
