Trafigura Sponsor Rugby Canada

Published on6 Oct 2008

6 October 2008 - The Canadian Men’s Rugby Team will embark on an unprecedented tour of Europe this fall, with the support of a major International Commodities Trading firm behind them. The tour will commence with a Test match against Portugal in Lisbon on November 1st, followed by Test matches against Ireland, Wales and Scotland in Limerick on November 8th, Cardiff on the 14th and Aberdeen on the 22nd of November.

Trafigura is a Global Oil and Metals Commodities Trading firm, with a Canadian office located in Calgary AB. The company first became involved as a sponsor of the National Senior Men’s Team during the 2008 Barclays Churchill Cup tournament, which was held throughout Ontario for pool play and in Chicago for the championship finals. Now with this exciting fall tour around the corner, the company is thrilled to be a part of the team once more, this time in their own back yard.

Rohan Fernando from Trafigura said: “We are proud to sponsor the Canadian Men’s Rugby Team and wish the players and staff every success in their European test series. It will be great to see the team in action in the UK and Ireland, as their matches will help both to raise their profile and ours around the world. Trafigura is a key player in the commodities arena; now we look forward to welcoming Rugby Canada’s key players.”

Rugby Canada is very happy to continue the relationship with Trafigura that started this past summer, and is building on the partnership by including the company in a special Gala Dinner to be held during the tour in London on Saturday 15th November.

Nick Taylor, Director of Marketing & Communications said, “Trafigura’s sponsor experience during the Barclays Churchill Cup was instrumental in extending the relationship to include this exciting fall tour. Now that we will be playing in three significant UK markets, the company will have an even greater opportunity to leverage their business through the various hospitality components of the tour. We will make sure that Trafigura and their guests get the most out of each event day, and our athletes will appreciate having another team member on board.”
