Investment and payment fraud warning
Investment fraud
Third parties may impersonate Trafigura to promote fraudulent investment opportunities. Be alert to these common scam methods:
- Fake websites and fraudulent social media accounts impersonating Trafigura
- Unsolicited communications - emails, calls, or messages
- Fraudulent documents or proposals promising unrealistic or guaranteed returns
- High-pressure tactics urging immediate action or secrecy
Important safeguards
- Trafigura does not offer investment opportunities to the general public
- All legitimate email communications from Trafigura will be from a "@trafigura.com" domain
- Be vigilant of lookalike domains with subtle misspellings like "@trafigurra.com" or "@traflgura.com"
Any email communication from domains (other than "@trafigura.com") is likely fraudulent, especially if it is an unexpected or unsolicited contact.
Payment fraud protection
Fraudsters may attempt to intercept legitimate transactions by sending falsified payment instructions. To protect yourself:
- Verify all payment instructions - Trafigura only sends payment information and instructions from "@trafigura.com" domains
- Authenticate all banking detail changes – legitimate changes will always:
- Be digitally signed (View Digital Signature Information)
- Be communicated through multiple channels
- Follow formal corporate verification protocols
If you suspect fraud
- Do not respond, click links or transfer funds
- Verify independently - Contact your known Trafigura counterpart using previously verified contact information, not details provided in the suspicious communication
- Report suspicious activity to fraud@trafigura.com and relevant authorities
Important Notice: Trafigura is not responsible for losses resulting from fraudulent payments. Counterparties bear responsibility for verifying payment instructions before proceeding with transactions.
We urge you to remain vigilant against these increasingly sophisticated fraud attempts.
